Assuming that you are looking for a software testing job - no matter where, it can be in the US, or the UK, in most countries the story is the same - you will need to keep a few things in mind in order to do great at that job interview. The first thing you should always find is (obviously) what software testing is all about. Do not go overboard and learn the whole software jargon just to show off, actually, you would make a better impression if you can use simpler words to explain what the employer will ask you to describe. You see, being a software tester does not imply a very vast software knowledge, but rather common sense computer-work. However, that does not mean that a software-testing job is quite that easy. You see, there are many aspects when it comes to a software testing job because what actually employers look for is a man that can overwork a software application in such a way that if there are any bugs (and as a software tester you will find quite a lot of them) you should be able to locate them. Finding bugs in a certain application will involve several developing tools sometimes. Another thing you should always keep in mind when searching for a software-testing job is to make sure that you are indeed suited to a team of testing professionals, or in other words, you have to know what this business is all about. The best way to do this is to set your mind on a certain company that you may want to work for now or in the near future. Another thing you should do is find a position in that company that will fit your area of expertise, don't take just any job and figure you will go around to what you want to do later. Aim always for what you want to do, not what is just available. For example, do not go to a company that is hiring gaming testers if you are not a gaming tester yourself. Software and gaming do not mix, when it comes to testing, you can adjust, but in the beginning your work will not seem as easy as It should. Now, another thing you should know is that the software testing field has a lot of demands and requirements, and the more of them you can fulfill, the better rated you shall be. It would be easier for you to find a software-testing job if you can fulfill a great number of those demands, because most probably at that point you will be considered a professional software tester. Some companies may not even hire almost anyone, meaning that they let out what skills a software tester should have, and you should know that these requirements are never something very easy to fulfill for one that has not been in this field for long. Some companies may ask, that aside from one's experience in the field a possible employer should also have a degree in Informational Technology or something similar to this. |
